How to Lose Baby Weight: 6 steps - wikiHow

How to Lose Baby Weight

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Losing baby weight can be hard for some women. While the first few pounds naturally shed themselves within the first week or so after giving birth, that remaining weight can really cause some frustration. There are several things you can do to speed up the process and make it a little easier.

Steps

  1. Burn more calories than you take in. This is the basic concept behind losing weight, whether you just had a baby or not. While it may be hard to exercise while attending to a newborn, it will help you lose weight faster if you can do at least something to get your heart pumping. Doing some cleaning while the baby is playing or napping can help you get some exercise. At the very least, eat a well-rounded, healthy diet full of vegetables, lean meats and whole grains.
  2. Breastfeed if you can. While studies are conflicting on whether breastfeeding actually helps women lose baby weight faster, it may help in your individual situation. Breastfeeding mothers tend to consume more calories, though, so watch what you eat to make sure you're not eating more than you realize. If you're pumping instead of breastfeeding, you may still reap some of the metabolic benefits, but studies are not conclusive at this point.
  3. Watch the snacks. If you're tired, it can be easy to just grab whatever is handy. Instead of reaching for a bag of chips or a pint of ice cream, try something a little more healthy but equally filling. Fruits, carrot sticks, granola and cereal bars, nuts, wheat crackers, low-fat cheese and yogurt are all relatively easy to prepare but will leave you satisfied. If you take some time to split bulk foods into individual portions ahead of time, that will help when you don't have the energy to prepare something.
  4. Sleep when you need to. It may be hard to find time to nap, but this will help reset your body to give you more energy in the daytime and give your body the rest it needs to repair itself, which includes losing pregnancy weight. In addition, sleeping when you're tired helps decrease the amount of cortisol in your blood; this is the stress hormone that can make it harder for you to lose weight.
  5. Find some baby activities that double as amusement for the child and activity for you. This could include pushing the baby around the block in a stroller or dancing around with her in your arms. Carrying your baby around in a sling or baby backpack can add some extra pounds, increasing the effort you put into walking and providing a novel experience for him.
  6. Locate a support group for new moms. This could be a "mommy and me" type class or just a fun group of ladies in your town who lean on each other for support. These women can help you stay motivated and focused on your goal of losing baby weight.

Tips

  • Talk to your doctor if you're having a hard time losing pregnancy weight.

How to Lose Weight After Pregnancy: 5 steps - wikiHow

How to Lose Weight After Pregnancy

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

After your delivery, it could take a couple of weeks before you can begin your exercise plan. Start out slowly with light exercises and stretches. The high impact aerobic and anaerobic exercises highlighted in the last steps will need to wait for a couple more months. Listen to your body and gradually increase the workout intensity over the next couple of months. Most importantly, stop immediately should you feel any discomfort or pain. These post pregnancy exercises, with increasing intensity, are good steps to recovering your energy and slimming down.

Steps

  1. Start by walking. It is an excellent exercise to get your body used to the thought of exercising again. Consider taking the first 15 to 30 minute walk by yourself or with a friend. This will allow you to listen to your body and determine a baseline for your activity level. Also, plan on a short 10 to 15 minute recover time when you return. Over time, you can increase the length of your walks and begin to jog or run for a little while.
  2. Do Kegel exercises. A Kegel exercise, named after Dr. Arnold Kegel, consists of contracting and relaxing the muscles that form part of the pelvic floor (which some people now colloquially call the "Kegel muscles"). Many women are familiar with this exercise during pregnancy to strengthen the muscle used during labor. By continuing kegel exercises after childbirth, you can strengthen the muscles of the bowels, bladder, uterus, and pelvic.
  3. After a few weeks, light abdominal stretching can be initiated to get your body back into the right shape following the birth of a child. Three exceptional exercises are: kneeling cat stretch, pelvic curl, and single leg stretch. Initially, keep the range of motion limited so that you do not over stretch the abs muscles. Each time you stretch, work to extend your range of motion and slowly increase the intensity of the exercise. If you feel any discomfort then reduce the intensity of the stretching routine for a couple of days. After a few more days, you can try again to increase the strenuousness of the workout.
  4. The next step in recovering your pre-pregnancy body can be done with Pilate or Yoga exercises. These exercises are excellent at reshaping your core. Exercises cover the absolute fundamental basics needed to re-discover the core muscles that are so abused during pregnancy and delivery by starting with the basics and progressing the reader through more challenging exercise sequences as your abdominal awareness is regained.
  5. The final step to bringing yourself back to the pre-pregnancy figure is short, high intensity workout the shed the lingering "baby fat." For the past four to six months, you have been readjusting your lifestyle to the new demands of being a mom and establishing a new family routine.
By doing Abdominal Crunches, pelvic floor exercises, running, brisk walking and yoga with nutritional diet will definitely lose your weight.

How to Prevent Hair Loss After Pregnancy: 8 steps - wikiHow

How to Prevent Hair Loss After Pregnancy

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Hair loss is a normal occurrence for a woman after a pregnancy. Telogen effluvium is the medical term for post-pregnancy hair loss, which happens to nearly 50 percent of women after they give birth. A temporary condition, this hair loss should not cause a woman to become bald or experience visibly thin spots. Use these tips to reduce or prevent hair loss after pregnancy.

Steps

  1. Avoid hairstyles that pull or stretch your hair. Braids, cornrows, weaves or tight rollers can pull hair and cause stress and trauma to your scalp. Hair that is excessively pulled is more likely to fall out naturally, without the extra issue of telogen effluvium affecting your hair growth cycle.
  2. Maintain a healthy diet that includes fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are not only naturally health, but they also contain flavonoids and antioxidants that protect hair follicles. Additionally, these foods encourage increased hair growth, which can offset any hair lost after pregnancy.
  3. Add vitamins and nutrients to your diet. Vitamin B complex, vitamins E and C, zinc and biotin help increase hair strength and health. Take extra supplements or eat foods rich in these nutrients and vitamins to help retain pre-pregnancy locks.
  4. Select a shampoo with quality ingredients. Shampoos that contain biotin or silica improve hair health and stimulate follicle growth. Use this shampoo regularly and rinse with cold water.
  5. Comb your wet hair with a wide-toothed comb. A wide-toothed comb reduces the amount of pulling and stress you apply to your hair as you attempt to remove tangles after washing it. Excessive pulling of your hair can increase the chances of it falling out.
  6. Reduce the use of heated styling tools. Heated styling tools like curling irons, hot rollers, flat irons and blow dryers dry hair out and may increase hair loss. Allow your hair to air dry and style it naturally. If you must use heated styling tools, use the coolest settings possible or give your hair a cool shot of air afterward with your hair dryer.
  7. Get a haircut.
    • Trim split ends. Split ends cause your hair to be less healthy. Unhealthy hair is shed in larger amounts than healthy hair.
    • Get a shorter haircut. Long hair weighs more and pulls from your scalp with its constant downward pull. Shorter haircuts cause less pressure to your hair follicles, which will decrease chances of increased shedding. A shorter hairstyle may cause your hair to look fuller and healthier, in addition to being easier to take care of than longer styles.
  8. Avoid stress. Having a new baby to take care of can create more stress in your life, but try to avoid additional stressful situations or feelings. Stress can cause your hair to fall out or decrease in thickness. Avoid stress to increase your chances of retaining more of your pre-pregnancy hair.

How to Create a Weight Loss Chart: 6 steps (with pictures)

How to Create a Weight Loss Chart

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

The weight loss industry is a multi-billion dollar industry in the United States alone, and for good reason. It has been projected, that by the year 2030, a full 50 percent of individuals in the. U.S. will be classified as overweight. Most people who are overweight know it; they know it's not healthy for them and it can lead to severe health complications. Of those who are aware of these facts, very few actually do anything about it. Despite all the promises of diet fads and equipment, the bottom line is that in order to lose weight the calories you consume must be less than the calories you're burning. The delicate balance between eating and burning calories can be difficult to manipulate, but 1 tool to help facilitate that balance is a weight loss chart. A weight loss chart can help you see on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, just how much weight you're gaining or losing. Here's how to use a weight loss chart.

Steps

Use an Excel Spreadsheet
  1. Open a new Excel document.
    • In the top 2 left columns, name the first "Date" and the second, "Weight." Fill in the date and weight data that you currently have. Don't worry if you only have 1 day or 2 to add to the chart.
    • Find the graph icon on the tool bar to open the "Chart Wizard" or go to "Insert" and then select "Chart." This opens the chart wizard.
    • Select "Line" for the chart type, and then pick a chart sub-type which displays line markers at each data point. Then click "Next."
  2. Enter your data when the wizard asks for it.
    • Select the data in both the "weight" and "chart" columns until a dotted line appears around all your data. The wizard should compile that information into a graph in front of you. Click "Next."
  3. Label your graph axis.
    • The bottom axis is "X" and you can label that "weight" or "date" depending on how you entered your data. Do the same for the "Y" axis. Click "Next."
  4. Select "As object in" and click "Finish." Your chart should now appear on your Excel page.
  5. Add more data to your graph.
    • Add the new data to the columns directly under the old. Then, click on the graph to highlight it. You'll notice that your data is now outlined in both blue and red. Drag the outline down to include the new information and it should appear in your graph.
Download a Weight Loss Chart
  1. Run a search for "weight loss chart."
    • Search for "weight loss chart" in your favorite search tool, and a variety of options will come up. You can download an Excel spreadsheet that is already configured, and all you need to do is drop in your data, or you can download pre-printed sheets that allow you to manually pencil in each bit of data.

Tips

  • Using a weight loss chart consistently will allow you to see how well you are gaining or losing weight. The key, however, is to regularly input data.
  • By keeping a food journal as you record your weight loss/gain on the chart, you can see what it was you ate on any given day that caused a weight gain or loss. Using these 2 tools in tandem can help you find the balance between calories consumed and calories burned.
